“I Survived New Leaf Academy” is a tumblr page started by a student who went to NLA in North Carolina for 2 years from 2007 to 2009. Since NLA-NC has been shut down, the more current content of this blog includes stories from students who went to NLA in Bend Oregon. I hope you decide to look at this blog. You have to make an account in order to view the full thing, and although that may seem inconvenient, I don’t feel comfortable copying other students' stories from the blog here without their knowledge, and it’s highly unlikely they will get back to me if I ask to post them here directly.

New Leaf Academy has been bought out by Embark. On their website you can choose which location you want to look at, and in the Bend location they have the same program director (Amber Haily), executive director (Deveney Marshall), psychiatrist (Erin Sutton), director of professional relations (Jennifer Parker), special education teacher (Maryanne Deke), and executive assistant (Wendy Jensen). They do not have the staff named on the website, but I wouldn’t put it past them to hire the same staff as well. They also have the same bunny barn, and if they keep the bunnies in the same conditions as they did when they were NLA, then I wouldn’t have much faith in them being any better (also because the conditions *are* illegal).

I have a friend who went to NLA with me, and she’s done a lot of speaking out. People are mainly asking about TRAILS, but she talks about NLA too. Her name is Leanne Roberts. She’s been on a few podcasts, and she speaks out about these programs on her tiktok. She’s wonderful <3
